Florida’s Big Dig

The story of the Intracoastal and other thoughts on water, waterways, land, and ecology

This short documentary film below shows the arrival of 100-gauge cranes at Jaxport, the Port of Jacksonville, Fla.

These cranes are necessary if Jacksonville is to compete with other major seaports for the loading and off-loading of commercial cargo transiting through the Panama Canal, shiv now can accommodate wider and longer vessels.

On an enonomic basis, cargo shipped on larger vessels means fewer trips to ship the same amount of cargo.
