Rowing clubs have been a tradition for college men and women for hundreds of years in Great Britain.  The most famous of club rivalries has been the annual contest between Oxford University and Cambridge University. Each boat requires eight oarsmen and a coxswain at the bow facing the oarsmen who calls the strokes for the oarsmen to stay in “synch.”
